Come Read with Us!
pRYEde is excited to announce our first in a series of adult Book Talks!
pRYEde deeply believes that literacy is a means to understanding and empathy, and that reading texts with LQBTQ+ characters and issues can help us to better support and advocate for our LGBTQ+ community members.
Book Summary - When a tornado rips through town, twelve-year-old Ivy Aberdeen's house is destroyed and her family of five is displaced. Ivy feels invisible and ignored in the aftermath of the storm--and what's worse, her notebook filled with secret drawings of girls holding hands has gone missing. "Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World" explores both LGBTQ+ themes and universally human themes of family, first love, and navigating life's unexpected challenges.

Change Makers Mural
This year's Youth Led Community Mural is entitled Change Makers, and shows 11 leaders of the LGBTQ+ Movement including Senator Tammy Baker, Marsha P. Johnson and Billy Porter. We are beyond impressed with the 25 students who created this idea and executed it so beautifully under the guaidance of art director Donna Wundeler.
Thank you to Rye Town Park and Crawford Park for hosting the mural this summer. The mural is now on display at Crawford Park.

pRYEde's Mission Statement
pRYEde Community Group (“pRYEde”) seeks to advocate locally for equity and inclusion; celebrate the diversity of Rye and the greater community; engage in educational programming; and strengthen sense of belonging for all, especially for those who hold minoritized identities. pRYEde began with a focus on supporting Rye’s LGBTQIA+ community members, and has broadened its focus to include the multitude of minority identity groups as defined by race, ethnicity, nationality, language, religion, disability status, and beyond.
Through partnerships with established Rye organizations and stakeholders, pRYEde Community Group will work to develop and promote diverse, inclusive, and equitable programming and events in Rye. We stand with the goal to make ALL groups and individuals feel heard and supported. pRYEde Community Group is guided by “3 C’s” - Communication, Collaboration, and Community building. The ongoing achievement of these objectives will lead to a greater sense of safety within Rye where ALL have the space to thrive. We firmly believe that the opportunity to engage with difference - for youth and adults alike - leads to greater empathy, understanding and kindness.
